Folks, I've been rooting about for better oomph, and it is there, but not easy. ATM is sorta out, since the Turboways are NW or OS2 only. Ethernet is sorta limited to 20Mbps Etherstreamers if you got them, but the streamer drivers that I have used (IBM 3.05?) disappoint. We got FDDI and TR.
Using Token Ring. Any decent FDX capable NIC, it appears that the IBM LANstreamer drivers aren't great, so a Madge TR card should be good. Expect max of 32Mbps, theoretical.
Trying to stay away from more complexity, so the Madge Smart Deskstream with the FE uplink would be sweet. While the SDS is available for under $50, the FE uplink is @325 as cheap as I can find it. Not worth spending $400 for basically 2x ethernet.
Smart Ringswitch is a bit chunkier, not common, but the FE uplink is just as pricey.
Olicom had the OC-8600 Crossfire. Ditto.
Cisco has not maintained wide FDDI support. I have a TR (FDX) to FE module for my 3640, a copy of IOS 12.07 or suchnot, but I would need to add a separate TR switch...
I do have a 3com 3500 with a six port FE module and a FDDI six port module, but the configuration is kicking my butt, even though I have the web manager installed (switch and modules alive, just cannot figure how to talk to downstairs router:( )
DEC made some interesting VNswitch 900 modules, I have the Hub - MX power slice, but no FDDI to FE...
Everything else seems to be 5 or 8 or 11 slot stuff that would suck power so fast that the hands on my electric meter outside would spin so fast they would churn butter....
Anyone here saavy the 3com 3500?
