I'm currently working on this MCA based PS/2, and am wondering if any of you clever folk might be able to offer some insight where Google has failed me.
What I've done so far:
1. Battery-ised the DS1287 RTC and DS1220AD NVRAM.
2. Removed useless IBM 3270 interface card
3. Booted from reference disk and configured system
4. Successfully booted to DOS.
The system was left off overnight and booted flawlessly this morning, verifying that my Dallas chip mods worked OK.
Here's where I get stuck:
- I have two SCSI cards, one of which seems to be faulty. When installed, the reference disk either complains that the card needs an option diskette, or that a conflict exists (despite none shown in the reference disk's HW listing). The cards are marked "Card 1" and "Card 2", which suggests they are meant to be used together? Any ideas?
- There are two 60MB HDDs, but only one seems to work correctly. The faulty one spins up as soon as power is applied, and causes the reference disk's auto configuration to hang on "Configuring SCSI devices." The working one doesn't spin up until it is queried, and works correctly in setup, and at boot time. There are 4 DIP switches on the disks (which are set the same on both disks), and a jumper header block, but I can't find any documentation on these on the web.
- The system only has 4MB of RAM. It has 72-pin SIMM slots, but nothing in my extensive SIMM collection seems to work. Is there something special about PS/2 SIMMs?
- OS/2 2.0 is installed but won't boot (error screen shown in photos link). Is this something that's repairable without another OS/2 system, or should I just "procure" some installation media and reformat?
Any help is appreciated!
