In order to waste time at work I have decided to resurrect an old Aladdin Pinnacle video effects workstation that we use to use back in the nineties. This system originally worked with a Windows 3.1 system and later we had it on a Windows 98 system. The effects system itself is a SCSI controlled device and at the time it was removed from service maybe twenty years ago I saved the two SCSI hard drives with the system.
In order to try to get this thing up and running I found the oldest rack mount workstation on campus that was in storage that has a Intel D815EEA mother board that I populated with a 700 MHz processor and 512 Megs of RAM and a PCI SCSI controller but the original SCSI system drive I had died and I cant recover it. I did a new installation of Windows XP-SP2 on a IDE drive and I had all the install disks for the Aladdin system so did a install of the application but when I try to launch the application windows comes back with the statement that it cannot find WINASPI.DLL and fails to start the application. I did set the compatibility mode in the icon to Windows 98 compatible but still have this issue of the missing file. Any idea on how I can resolve this? Any way I can write a new DLL for this application? Or do I have to maybe install a DOS under system and Windows 95 or 98?
Attached is an image of the system, no expense has been spared in locating the old computer, keyboard and tube display to go with this. Long term goal is to put this all in my office in a equipment rack along with a four by three analog display, waveform monitor and vector scope and have it around to bore students and faculty with stories of television yester days.
