Accessing "locked-in" drivers

If you have one of the older Sony desktops or portables this is gonna drive you as crazy as I am getting.

Most of the drivers for Sony's computers are still available for download however they do something really weird. When the .msi is run it checks for OEM data on the machine. Apparently if you are not running the OEM system install still (because either you do not have the original hard drive or you don't have the restore CD which itself negates the reason for the download) the check fails and you can't install the driver. If it's because the oeminfo file is missing or something I got no idea what to shim in to fool it into thinking it's a Sony.
Being an msi file however you can use something like WinRAR to extract the files out of the installer which in this case gives you a folder aptly named "disk1" and its contents which among other things contains the rest of the install engine and two cab files you can't open because WinRAR says they are corrupt but likely contain the driver. How do I proceed from here? Many of the drivers are proprietary to Sony's weird features like the thumbwheel on the picturebooks or the wacom digitizer on say the PCV-LX900.
