Hi all.
I'm new here, and joined primarily to get some advice on preparing to sell and ship a SOL-20 Terminal, SOL Printer 2 and Helios II Disk Memory System.
First of all, I am an estate liquidator, not a computer person. Not to be overly self-deprecating, but just figuring out how to start a thread on this forum taxed my techie knowledge to the smoking point. So please bear with me!
The items I need to sell are from the estate of a brilliant electronics engineer from the DC area, who passed away last month. He was an avid collector of all things computer, ham radio and communications related.
Along with weight concerns, which are considerable, the research I have done so far has me very worried about shipping these items, particularly the Helios II. I do not have the inserts that are recommended for shipping. I have advertised them for local pickup with no inquiries, so I'm thinking I need to get brave and offer to ship them, and maybe list them on the marketplace here. But before I do, I'd like to hear from the experts. There is no doubt they are beautiful to look at, even for a non-geek like me. But I don't think it will fly to say "For Sale: Pretty blue computer thingies".
What specific details will a buyer want to know? What details should be photographed? Is there anywhere I can purchase inserts to safely ship the Helios? I have only powered on the SOL20 and the printer. I've been told the Helios was in working order when the owner moved to assisted living 5 years ago, but do not want to power it on since I don't know what I'm doing. I would like to move them out of inventory as soon as possible, but I do have an obligation to the heirs to make the best deal possible.
Any help or suggestions from anyone here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
